Luckily, I keep a lot of the installers I download; that included the last full installer of Microsoft Windows Essentials 2012.

Of course this installer includes the Windows Live Writer, Windows Movie Maker, Microsoft OneDrive, Photo Gallery, Microsoft mail and (the now defunct) Messenger.

The installer allows you to choose the applications you want to install. Take note that if you want to install Windows Movie Maker, it comes with Photo Gallery. And Microsoft Mail is still better than what Microsoft released with Windows 10 for handling mail.

Photo Gallery is Microsoft Photo Gallery is still a good application; abandoned, but still good.

Windows Live Writer is closed down completely, and handed over to the Open Live Writer dev team. http://openlivewriter.org/ I mean it still works for some blog services, but not all. Windows Live Writer doesn’t work with Blogger anymore. You have to use Open Live Writer for that now.

Microsoft OneDrive is in the installer, but it’s included with Windows 10 and the latest installer can be downloaded here: https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/download/

The install file is about 135Mb. If you’ve got a high-speed connection it’s no big deal.

Download Link:

Full Windows Essentials 2012 [offline installer]

Anyway, I hope this helps…
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15239354443486568192noreply@blogger.com48tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123260083943282839.post-51652471385425313672017-02-26T21:51:00.001-05:002017-03-13T16:54:04.001-04:00Open Live Writer – Server Error 501 using Blogger Service

Since the death of Windows Live Writer, the Open Live Writer dev team has given it a new life and making small improvements over the past year. While there has been some improvements, the application is still has a lot of the old dependencies.

Take for an example, in a recent forum post an user posted an error with using the Blogger service; saying he was getting error 501.

The exact error was:

The remote server returned an error: (501) Not Implemented.

This is really a reminder that the images that you use on the Blogger service are all stored in the Google Photos service. And when you post images using the web GUI of Blogger, it’s a transparent function. When you use/used Windows Live Writer/Open Live Writer the images are stored in Google Photos, where a folder/album called Windows Live Writer has to be created.

So, if you are running into the same error, open https://photos.google.com/, create a new album called Windows Live Writer and then try to publish with Open Live Writer and you should be fine.

If you have multiple Google accounts, ensure you are doing this on the account you use with your Blogger account.

Creating a new album requires at least one image.

Some clarification needs to be made here.
This article says you need a “Windows Live Writer” folder with Google Photos, but you can also use “Open Live Writer”. It's been replaced by Open Live Writer. Over the past year, since the Open Live Writer team took over the development of that application, the development team on GITHUB has been busy in the background making small improvements.

The latest version of Open Live Writer can be found on the Windows Store. Just do a search for Open Live Writer. The application will be installed and should be available for automatic update as they're issued.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/open-live-writer/9nblggh5279m

Drafts and recent posts folder

There are a few noticeable changes that have been added to Open Live Writer. One of the most requested was the ability to change the recently posted and drafts folder location.

It's now located under the file menu, under options:

You can use the browse button to change the location of your drafts and recent posts folder.

For those people who want to use cloud storage in conjunction with Open Live Writer, you can just point this location to the synchronized location that you want to use.

Spelling

A very missed feature of Open Live Writer was the ability to do spellchecking. With the latest release of Open Live Writer the ability for spellcheck is back.

It's now located under the file menu, under options and spelling:

Open Live Writer actively reports that it supports English (Canada, Liberia, Republic of Philippines and United States).

One of the biggest missing things out of the current version of Open Live Writer is the ability to add plug-ins; that was Windows Live Writer’s biggest asset. Currently, Open Live Writer doesn't have a working plug-ins page, but it is being worked on.

Currently, you can only get the latest version of Open Live Writer from the Windows Store; the Open Live Writer development team is working on the separate installer for people who don't have access to the Windows Store, or aren't using it.

For more information about Open Live Writer, you can visit their website at http://openlivewriter.org/

If you have any thoughts or opinions on this, let me know in the comments below...
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15239354443486568192noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123260083943282839.post-37747923877854083152016-02-13T18:55:00.001-05:002016-02-13T19:13:14.518-05:00Open Live Writer v6 fixes some problems with Blogger

You really have to appreciate the developers that have taken over for Windows Live Writer since it's gone open source; Open Live Writer. Microsoft completely abandoned Windows Live Writer couple of years ago and there hasn't been any active development on the application for a while.

Just recently, Windows Live Writer stopped working with Blogger altogether. This left a lot of [Blogger] blog authors completely frantic; looking for solutions. The developers fixed that pretty quick and luckily, with the latest release of Open Live Writer, version 6, a few more issues with the Blogger interface has been remedied.

Fixed/added:

ability to retrieve drafts from Blogger
ability to edit older posts greater than 500
schedule posts to publish at the correct time
ability to publish and retrieve pages with Blogger
and Open Live Writer now supports Blogger categories

So in addition to the developers fixing the initial problem of the authentication issue with Blogger, they've made great strides to make Open Live Writer much more compatible. They were able to make these corrections in a matter of just a few weeks, where Microsoft had just ignored their user base for years. Bravo for our new developers.

If you're running the latest version of Open Live Writer, it will update automatically. Seeing as how Windows Live Writer is dead [Microsoft no longer actively coding for it] in the last version of Windows Live Writer has been ported off to open source; Open Live Writer— it's time to start talking about Open Live Writer.
Easy enough. Let's start with downloading and installing it. Then let’s take a look where it puts everything.
You'll need to visit the Open Live Writer website.
OpenLiveWriter.org
Once you're on the website, just use the download option of the top of the page.

At the time of this article, Open Live Writer was slightly bigger than 5 MB. Downloading this installation file should only take about a second or two on a broadband connection.

Where does it install to?

Open Live Writer does not install into the ‘program files’ folder; it installs into the ‘appdata’ folder.
Application Path:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\OpenLiveWriter

The application itself is not located in the root folder. It's located under the folder prefixed with ‘app’ and suffixed with the version number. In this particular case 0.5.1.4 [as of 2/05/2016].

Where's the default template?

If you open up the app folder, as mentioned above, inside that folder you find a folder called template. It'll contain the default HTML file and the default CSS file.
These are the files that Open Live Writer uses if you're editing your post without the theme information applied.

Once you're into Open Live Writer, and you've created your first account, and tried to download your theme; if you're having problems using your theme, you can use the default template.
If you're frustrated by the fact that the default template is way too wide, or not the right size as your standard post, you can modify the CSS file.
Just open up the CSS file with the standard text editor, like notepad. If you add the information to the CSS file for #wrapper, you can set the width of the post. So if you can't get anything right about your theme as you're trying to compose, you can get the width of the post right.
Under the wrapper section, for the width setting, change that to whatever your blog best fits. Save your settings in your text editor and then restart Open Live Writer.
If you want to adjust the font that used, repeat the process but update the font settings.

Where are the other blog templates?

Since Windows Live Writer has gone to open source, not a lot of changes have been made to the base application. Every time you create a blog account in Open Live Writer, a new template folder is created on your hard drive. This is where all your theme information for that account is kept [HTML and CSS].
The blog template folders are still using cryptic numbers and letters to name the folders. It's difficult to understand which folder is which unless you open them up individually, one at a time.

Where are the drafts and recent posts kept?

Again, not much has changed since Windows Live Writer went to open source. So the source so the path for drafts and recent posts hasn't changed.
You can look under your ‘documents’ folder, find ‘my weblog posts’ — there you'll find all of your drafts and recent posts.
Path:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\My Weblog Posts\Drafts

Where’s the registry entries?

One of the nicest things about Open Live Writer is that now that you have developers who are volunteering their time and don't mind sharing information about the application, you can get information like where the registry entries are now. Thanks to @scottisafool [Twitter] for helping me find the registry entries with Open Live Writer.
Disclaimer; if you don't know what the registry is or how to modify it, it's best just to leave the information in the registry alone.
But to access the registry entries for Open Live Writer, you can go into Windows, click on the start button, in the run box and type in “regedt32”. This should open the registry editor for you.
Path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\OpenLiveWriter

Here you get to see the registry entries in the raw form.
If you start digging through the registry for Open Live Writer and you go under the weblogs folder you may notice something interesting, your cryptic folder name for your blog template has a matching registry entry.

Does Open Live Writer auto-update?

Yes. According to a post I saw, and according to the registry entries for Open Live Writer, it looks as though the application will automatically update when there's new versions available.

Obviously, Open Live Writer is going to evolve and is going to have more features, and some of this information may change in the future, but as of right now, this information is accurate.
It's been obvious for a long time that Microsoft has been completely neglecting one of the most popular applications they've ever seen for bloggers; Windows Live Writer. Lot of information and rumor has been spread for a long time about Windows Live Writer going open source.

The moment that devout Windows Live Writer users have been waiting for has come true. Windows Live Writer has been released as open source. Some more good news is that there's plenty of volunteer programmers that have stepped forward to donate portions of code to make Windows Live Writer better.

Going forward, with the open source version, it's now going to be called Open Live Writer. as with most software that goes open source, some changes in code will happen. And with this release of Open Live Writer, some features of the application have been removed because of the integration with Microsoft.

The Good

Open Live Writer still has a lot of the base features and functionality people are looking for.

Open Live Writer is going to have volunteer programmers to be able to look at the code, make changes and additions to the application.

The code of Open Live Writer is going to be open to inspection to everyone.

Open Live Writer is going to have a new plug-ins architecture put in place. With luck, you'll be able to add plug-ins directly into Open Live Writer from within the application once everything is in place.

Since Open Live Writer is open source, I would expect to see versions of the software with Linux and Apple platforms as well.

Open Live Writer now has a new presence on social networks like Twitter and Facebook.

Users now have input on the direction with Open Live Writer. Users can see a roadmap of the planned development for the application.

The Not So Good

Open Live Writer doesn't have all the features and functions that the previous version had. Functions that were dependent upon Microsoft have been removed; like photo album and spell checking.

Open Live Writer doesn't have a plug-ins website/options yet.

There's no workable option yet for Blogger; but there are things in motion with Google to get this working.

If you're looking for more information on the Open Live Writer efforts, you can visit the Open Live Writer website; OpenLiveWriter.org. If you're interested in helping to code for Open Live Writer, you can find the repository on GitHub.
I used Windows Live Writer to produce pretty much all of my articles on my website, but as Microsoft decided to lean away from supporting Windows Live Writer, I started looking for other alternatives. As my website [LEHSYS]is based off of WordPress, I started exploring options to produce my articles with that platform, but the experience for producing articles wasn't that robust; it was limited in many ways.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of off-line blogging applications that are other decent quality. No one has actually stepped forward to produce something that is really a well-rounded option for blogging off-line, or making it very easy for authors to produce content.

In the spirit of producing content, I have been a longtime user of using Dragon NaturallySpeaking as well. Using voice recognition to create my articles makes it very convenient and productive.

Unfortunately, Nuance released a version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking (version 13) that I found that was completely abhorrent. Version 13 of Dragon NaturallySpeaking was a full step backward for me. The speech recognition software that was convenient to me before, was now a hindrance. I was forced to downgrade back to version 12.5. With that version I was able to continue using the speech recognition software in pretty much any application that I wanted to, but it didn't work very well with Windows Live Writer.

So there you have it. The off-line blogging application that I was accustomed to using was being forgotten by Microsoft and one of the most productive applications that I use all the time, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, was going through growing pains. There was several years where, between Microsoft and Nuance, is very difficult to say that creating content was easy or enjoyable.

But now, with the release of Windows 10, Microsoft Edge and the release of Nuance's Dragon Professional Individual [version 14], it seems that the world has come together again.

The performance between Dragon NaturallySpeaking's engine, coupled with Microsoft edge/Windows Live Writer, everything seems to be working very well.

Windows Live Writer uses the Triton engine from Internet Explorer, which is now Microsoft Edge. Nuance has tried to mitigate some of the shortcomings from version 13 of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, making it a little bit easier to use and a little bit more compatible with traditional applications.

Another reason that I am extremely happy to report that these two are working together again is that while Nuance's Dragon NaturallySpeaking engine [Dragon Professional Individual] has been updated, it still lacks a great level of compatibility with standard browsers [Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge].

My experience with Dragon Professional Individual is so bad with the standard browsers, that I can't compose articles on a consistent basis with the plug-ins that Nuance provides. The plug-ins that Nuance requires for the major browsers, to make them fully compatible with Dragon Professional Individual, doesn't work that well.

e.g.

with Google Chrome; as I'm dictating, randomly blank lines appear. Words are not capitalized. I can do corrections and sometimes my dictation is not picked up at all.
with Internet Explorer/Microsoft Edge; ironically, most of the time the dictation doesn't work at all. When it does work, I experienced much the same issues as Google Chrome. Words don't get capitalized, and in my experience, correction options don't work consistently.
with Firefox; has the same problems as the browsers listed above, but more of a mixture.

The overall picture is that Dragon Professional Individual is highly inconsistent in the browser. So I was very surprised that when I upgraded to Windows 10, I found that version 14 worked very well with Windows Live Writer and I was able to go back to using that application for composing blog posts. Like this one.

I have to honestly say that I feel like the compatibility between Dragon Professional Individual and the Microsoft-based browsers [Internet Explorer/Microsoft Edge] is what has made this union great again.

There's reports that Windows Live Writer is going to be going open source soon; and that's great. I can only hope to think that Nuance is going to continue to develop their speech recognition software to be more compatible with all software. In my experience, version 12.5 was the most compatible with all software, but later versions, like 13 and 14, has shown great improvement in performance and recognition. I'm optimistic going forward.

If you have any thoughts or opinions on this, let me know in the comments below...
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15239354443486568192noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123260083943282839.post-50441444863528085522015-09-25T13:38:00.001-04:002015-09-25T13:38:28.024-04:00Windows 10: Microsoft leaves Windows Movie Maker to die

With the release of Windows 10, some people may have noticed that Windows Movie Maker may not be there. If you install Windows 10 from a clean installation, it's not going to be there, but if you have Windows Movie Maker installed before you upgrade from a previous version of Windows to Windows 10, it should be there.

According to Microsoft's website, Windows Movie Maker is no longer supported by Windows 10. So the question becomes is this a good idea or is it a bad idea? The answer is simple if your Microsoft and a bit disappointing if you're the person who's been using Windows Movie Maker for years; or expecting to have some sort of video editing software built into the operating system.

Windows Movie Maker has always been one of the most popular video editing software is available. I think it was actually more popular in its previous form with version 2.6; with the timeline view, but that's beside the point.

Windows Movie Maker had some strong points but placed a lot of the responsibility of video codecs onto the user and this made for some very difficult times and some angry people.

The overall problem with Windows Movie Maker has always been that it's supposed to support a wide variety of video formats and it's supposed to allow for people to simply drag-and-drop media directly into it and then create videos very simply, but the reality was Windows Movie Maker only supported the video formats for which the video codecs were properly loaded. So if you are a user that was completely new to video editing and you walked into Windows Movie Maker thinking that it was going to be a cakewalk, you are probably surprised of otherwise.

Responsibility for finding the video codecs fell upon the users that wanted to use Windows Movie Maker. And in some cases, Microsoft expected the users to purchase the proper codecs for the video files or audio that they were working with.

The oddity of this game was that a lot of video conversion programs available on the Internet had these codecs built indirectly. They could open up these video files and media files without any issues whatsoever. Microsoft's excuse for not supporting the other video formats was that there would be an additional cost for the licensing that they didn't want to incur. Overall, Microsoft provided absolutely zero support and assistance to providing, locating or loading the proper codecs that were required.

So bouncing back to the situation where you got a person who's never used Windows Movie Maker before, and now you have this notice from Windows Movie Maker that the video format that they're trying to use is not supported, please load the proper codec situation; how does one go about finding the proper codec?

Oddly enough, if the person want to pursue resolution on making Windows Movie Maker support the proper codec, Microsoft would point them in the direction of a freeware application available from SourceForge called mediainfo.

That's right, Microsoft would point their users of Windows Movie Maker, over to a freeware application, that they didn't support, that would allow their customers to find (hopefully) the proper codecs that would allow them to edit the video inside Windows Movie Maker.

From my perspective, and others, I think doses a completely stupid position for Microsoft to take. Microsoft should have simply supported the product or not. Pushing users to go to a freeware application to do their job for them was ridiculous and self insulting.

If you've taken the time to read this far, you can see why Microsoft has chose not to continue supporting Windows Movie Maker. The customer base that uses that application is very angry with them. Microsoft is taking the stupidest approach to helping their customers by referencing them to a freeware application that does what Windows Movie Maker should have done automatically. Microsoft also hasn't provided any updates to Windows Movie Maker in quite some time, despite a lot of customers requests for additional features and bug fixes.

So what are the solutions? And what's to do?

Basically, Microsoft is not prepared to endure any more self insulting actions having to do with video editing. They are halting the support of Windows Movie Maker and they are bluntly, very directly, pointing customers in the direction of their Windows store to purchase video editing software.

Sadly there's not much there to choose from… another Microsoft fail to chalk up.

However, as their website says; if you really want, you can download the old version of Windows Movie Maker, but is not supported. Swim at your own risk, and Microsoft doesn't want to hear about your complaints about Windows Movie Maker anymore.

[mic drops and they walk disrespectfully offstage]

If you have any thoughts or opinions on this, let me know in the comments below... Microsoft hasn't shown any love for Windows live writer in a really long time. I think the last update to Windows live writer was sometime in 2009. I don't necessarily include a GUI update, without any bug fixes, a serious update to the application.

Reports are coming in that Windows live writer is going to be going open source, and that's great, because I haven't used Windows live writer to compose any blog posts in a while.

Like most of you, I run into issues with theme compatibility, problems with posting, being able to access accounts, lack of appropriate plug-ins, and having to convert my images to JPEG format when composing my blog posts. Those are just some of the things that I think Microsoft should have fixed early on, but didn't.

The good news is that I have been using Windows Live Writer to compose my last couple of posts; through LEHSYS, and of course this blog post.

There was two main reasons for not using Windows Live Writer. Windows Live Writer was not detecting the WordPress theme properly and because I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Windows Live Writer was performing horribly with the latest updates to Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10. Fortunately, with the release of Windows 10, and the release of the subsequent new browser for Microsoft, Edge, Dragon NaturallySpeaking seems to be working much better; making it easier for me to share information.

Scott Hanselman gave indications back on June 10 that progress is being made towards Windows Live Writer going open sourced.

https://twitter.com/shanselman/status/608671203192995843

I'm very interested to see what Windows Live Writer will be able to do once it goes open source.

Windows Live Writer is one of those niche applications that Microsoft has just chose to abandon, but it has a huge user base and everyone agrees that it's the number one off-line blog editor. It integrates very closely with WordPress but also supports other blog types like Blogger.

One of the more powerful things about Windows Live Writer is its ability to support plug-ins. For a long time Windows Live Writer plug-ins were coming in left and right, allowing authors to do specialized things with their blog posts and make them look very professional.

If Microsoft had only seen the potential of what Windows Live Writer was, as opposed to seeing Windows Live Writer as a side effect to a failed experiment with their Windows live platform, I think a lot of people would have paid for Windows Live Writer to continue development.

I applaud Mr. Hanselman and the efforts he's taken to keep Windows Live Writer alive and to understand how important it is to people who share information over the Internet and to compose professional looking sets of information.

If you have any thoughts or opinions on this, let me know in the comments below...
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15239354443486568192noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123260083943282839.post-66599357094290176162015-02-12T09:59:00.001-05:002015-02-12T09:59:27.514-05:00Windows Movie Maker 2011/2012 - Webcam issues?

Windows Live Movie Maker is a free offering from Microsoft that offers novice and average users the ability to edit video and from there, be able to share/publish it to Facebook, YouTube, eMail, DVD and even custom resolutions. It's a basic editor with very simplified interface, and it's part of the Windows <strike>Live</strike> Essentials Suite of applications.

This offering from Microsoft hasn't been updated in some time. It still has all the same problems and issues it had in 2011. The only thing Microsoft added was the ability to export to MP4 and changed up the ribbon interface; which I don't think is a massive improvement, but oh, well.

One problem that has remained the same is the problem with Windows Movie Maker not working with certain webcams [web camera (s)]; even Microsoft's own LifeCam. This can be just about any webcam, but the point is that Windows Movie Maker sometimes just doesn't work.

Problem

So there you are getting ready to make a video and record your self with your webcam and then when you open Windows Movie Maker it gives you nothing or you get an error.

Something like this:

Solution

As a troubleshooting step for problems with getting your WebCam to work with Windows Movie Maker, you should test to see if your WebCam works with other applications such as instant messengers, Skype or any other types of applications that utilize your WebCam.

If your WebCam works in all your other applications, but not in Windows Movie Maker, the problem is not your WebCam; the problem is Windows Movie Maker.

If you visit the support forums for Windows Movie Maker, a lot of the technicians will suggest that you get updated drivers, update your bios, contact your manufacturer for support, but all of this is worthless if the only application that your WebCam does not work in is Windows Movie Maker.

Fortunately, there is a quick solution. It's not a perfect fix, it's a workaround allows you to use your WebCam inside Windows Movie Maker. It's called 'SplitCamera'.

http://www.splitcamera.com/

What this application essentially does is create a virtual WebCam that is linked to your physical WebCam. In addition to adding some neat features and special effects to your normal WebCam, it allows you to go into Windows Movie Maker and select the other WebCam [splitcamera] as the audio and video inputs.

The download for this application is roughly 100 MB. Over a broadband connection, this really shouldn't be an issue. The installation of the software is free and doesn't contain any optional software [spyware/malware].

Here's the installation process:

The installation process is pretty easy. It takes a few minutes to go through the installation, but for me there was no problems. As you will notice during installation process, application installs a driver for a device; that's the virtual WebCam.

After the installation completes, go back to Windows Movie Maker 2011/2012, and update your WebCam settings.

Once you click okay, the display of your WebCam should show up in Windows Movie Maker.

Please keep in mind that this is a workaround option for Windows Movie Maker. It has worked for other users and if for some reason it doesn't work for you, just uninstall the SplitCamera software.

If you have any better ideas or suggestions, let me know in the comments below...
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15239354443486568192noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123260083943282839.post-7295681824991054752014-12-09T11:45:00.000-05:002014-12-09T11:48:16.155-05:00It's 2014; are you still using Windows Live Writer?

Are you one of the dedicated few that are still using Windows Live Writer? Have you noticed that Microsoft has removed the Windows Live Writer plug-ins page?

Back in August 2014, there was a post on Twitter that indicated that there were some advanced discussions about living Windows Live Writer over to open source. But I wonder if that discussion is too late. Microsoft has essentially killed Windows Live Writer by not offering any updates on the software in years.

The Windows Live Writer support forum is all but a ghost town. There are very few new posts coming into the support forum.
What's sad is that Microsoft abandon Windows Live Writer shortly after it was adopted by Microsoft. Microsoft thought they were going to create this new blogging platform, Windows live, to compete directly with WordPress. They thought that if they had a blogging platform and an application that was directly tied to content creation, they would have this enormous new customer base that would drive content creation.

They were partly correct. During the brief time for which Windows live was active, and Windows Live Writer was available, Microsoft was driving a lot of content creation through their platform, but it wasn't anything near to what WordPress was doing. WordPress was a juggernaut of content creation, it was very flexible, very friendly and it was being actively developed. The Windows live platform was all but abandoned directly after it was kicked off.

Essentially, Microsoft has now killed the Windows live blogging platform and now they have killed Windows Live Writer.

The biggest question now is to all the people who love Windows Live Writer, loved using it and are probably still using it; what do you do now?

If you're using Windows Live Writer, you know how great the application is for content creation. A lot of people live and die by the fact that they can use Windows Live Writer to publish the content, insert images and use a wide array of plug-ins to insert content. But unfortunately, you can only download Windows Live Writer through the Windows essentials package and you no longer have access to the Windows Live Writer plug-ins website page; Microsoft has taken it down. The only way to find Windows Live Writer plug-ins now is by doing searches through Google.

If you're using Google blogger, it's not great news, but you can still log into blogspot.com and create posts manually with their web based editor. It's excessively depressing because it's not being actively developed and a lot of effort has not gone into it over the past couple of years; it only has basic features/editing.

If you're using WordPress, you have so many more options now in editing and composition of new blog posts with WordPress than you did a few years ago. WordPress offers a wide array of plug-ins for article composition, drag-and-drop images, image optimization and many more. You just have to dig through the WordPress plug-in library and find the plug-ins that you're looking for specifically.

I know one of the key points of using Windows Live Writer was the ability to drag-and-drop images directly into the article, make adjustments to the images or insert galleries. Well, you can do the same things in WordPress, and some things might be a little more complicated, but it can still be done. One of the best changes that were press has made in the past couple of years is the ability to drag-and-drop images. And there are plug-ins that can allow you to drag-and-drop images so that they are fixed sizes when they are inserted; same goes for inserting videos and tweets from Twitter.

Google is slowly making changes to blogspot and WordPress is constantly making changes to their blogging platform. To my knowledge, Windows Live Writer still works with both of these blogging services, but now blogspot requires two-step authentication with Windows Live Writer; there's no option, you have to. And who's to say that WordPress is not going to make changes in the future that could alienate Windows Live Writer users.

I think everyone already understands that Windows Live Writer was very easy to use. Without access to Windows Live Writer those users will be forced to make a choice. If you're using Windows Live Writer and you're becoming discontent, you already know that there's not a lot of options out there for applications that allow you to blog off-line or make it easy to create content.

So honest question is, are you still using Windows Live Writer or have you moved on to something else? And if you moved on to something else, how long did you wait before giving up on Windows Live Writer?

I was recently given the opportunity to review WonderFox DVD Ripper, for copying DVDs. I believe everyone has reached a point where they recognize the importance of being able to back up their DVD collection, but more importantly being able to enjoy their media collection anywhere they wanted. Being able to enjoy your media collection anywhere, means that you have to be able to rip your DVDs into a standard format that a software package can use to transmit over the Internet or put in a format that can be used on a portable device, like MP4.
When you purchase DVDs or Blu-ray DVDs, sometimes these purchases come with ultraviolet versions of those movies, but because the complications and the licensing and the accessibility, plus the issue of redundant streaming of the same movie; it's a hassle. It's easier just to encode your own movies and take them anywhere and do what you want to with them. This is where WonderFox DVD Ripper comes into play.
I believe most people understand that DVDs by default cannot be just copied, they have encryption on them that keep them from being copied and one of the benefits of this software is that it allows you to bypass those encryption schemes.
WonderFox DVD Ripper is a software package that can be downloaded from their website. The downloaded version of the software is roughly 16 MB; which is very easy on the bandwidth meter. If you have a high-speed connection, which most people do, downloading 16 MB doesn't take very long at all. Installation of the software is very straightforward. Does no deceptive installations or hidden agendas behind the installation of the software; mainly the installation is default choices all the way through.
Initial thoughts and impressions

My initial impressions of the WonderFox DVD Ripper was that the user interface was very straightforward. His only three main options when you open the software. Loading a DVD disc, loading an ISO image and pointing to a DVD folder. If you're familiar with copying DVDs, you'll be familiar with having DVD folders somewhere on your system. The one thing on those about the software packages that the encoding features are very simple. You decide how high-quality or low-quality you like your videos to be exported.
There's other software packages on the Internet that can be overly complicated and can be intimidating to some, but this software makes the encoding process/ripping process very simplistic.
From the very beginning, the only thing that you have to do is choose where the source information is, WonderFox DVD Ripper will automatically detect all the video files that are available and select the largest video file by default. On the right-hand side of the software, you choose the export format that you want. In my particular case, I prefer to export to MP4 which is generally accepted as the default standard; it's compatible with just about everything.
At the bottom of the screen, you have the option to choose where you want the output of the video encoding to go. The only issue you have to worry about is if you have enough space the whole being encoded video. Most current systems have at least a 1 TB hard drive; this really shouldn't be an issue. And the last thing to do is click on the run button in the bottom right-hand corner. It's very simple.

High Points
The user interface is very clean. The options to encode the video are very simple, very easy to get to. In my evaluation and testing of the software I found that the software was able to encode an entire DVD in roughly 30 minutes. This testing was directly from the DVD. Obviously, if the operator RE has an ISO image of the DVD, I would suspect that encoding a ISO DVD would take much less time; and I'm sure that the same would apply for a DVD folder.
Accessing information directly from a hard drive is always going to be faster than accessing information from a DVD drive.

Another nice feature of this software is the ability to crop the area that you want to encode. Some DVD ripping software packages don't give you the option to get rid of the black bars or encode just the areas that you want.

WonderFox DVD Ripper has an option in the software to EDIT the video before you start the encoding process. In addition to being able to remove the black bars from the DVD encodings, you can encode the DVDs with specific video filters; as for instance adding a video effect to make the DVD look older [as shown above].

Low Points
WonderFox DVD Ripper has the ability to choose source locations, like the DVD, ISOs or a DVD folder. What was hardly missing about the software package was the ability to drag and drop the ISO files and the DVD folder. You could grab a ISO file and drag it into the software and the icon would indicate that you're dragging a file or folder, but when you let go of that source information, the application would not do anything with it; it would force you to go through the browsing process. Using the standard file browsing or folder browsing for source information is a bit irritating; having the ability to drag-and-drop source files would be a very nice addition to this software package.
It may seem odd to some people, but I was a little bit disappointed that the software package didn't have the ability to export to an ISO format. WonderFox DVD Ripper has the ability to read ISOs, but doesn't have the ability to create them. It may seem awfully redundant, but someone may want to be able to read their existing DVD and create an ISO of the DVD as a backup.
[important] I would like to note that during the review process, I contacted the developer about these low points in the application and it's very possible that with the next release of this software package that the application will have those features in it. [/important]

Special Mentions

One thing I really liked about this software package was that the developer had the foresight to understand that some people may not understand exactly what all the special settings do for video and audio encoding. The software comes with a lot of preset encoding options for various devices and other exports.
The benefit to this is that for people that don't have technical backgrounds or don't want to mess with the finer details, they just want things to work; when choosing the output profile in WonderFox DVD Ripper, they can choose the format and device that they want to use.
To be honest, there were so many different profiles, I never found the need to create a custom profile.

My Conclusions
I have used other DVD ripping software packages in the past. Some software packages are more mature and some are very clunky; and some software packages that do DVD ripping can be outright complicated— making it very intimidating to even approach ripping a DVD.
I think this software package approach is the process of ripping a DVD in one of the most straightforward manner as possible; you choose the source, you choose the format and you choose the destination— that's it. The existing export profiles make it even easier to choose how you want to carry your media.
WonderFox DVD Ripper is a really good software package that does exactly what it needs to do.
If you're in the process of trying to figure out how to copy your DVD collection, you can try WonderFox DVD Ripper Speedy without charge of any kind and get an idea of the quality of their software.. Their main website will indicate the current price of the software, but as of the time of this article, the website was running a special for half the normal price of the DVD ripping software [which was great].
About two months ago, I was in the Windows Movie Maker support forums and there was an individual who is requesting for Windows Movie Maker to be able to grab all the media that was being used for his video composition and consolidate all media types into one folder.

Unfortunately, Windows Movie Maker 2012 doesn't do that. When you're working with a video project in Windows Movie Maker, Windows Movie Maker simply looks to the location where the source video is and works from there.

This means that if you want to work on a video project from two different locations, you have to have access to those source media types. Simply copying the Windows Movie Maker project file, which is just a text file, is not going to get you what you want. You have to have the project file and the source media files [video, audio and images].

In the Windows Movie Maker world, the WLMP file is a project file; it's NOT a video file that can be played or converted. The project file [text file] simply tells Windows Movie Maker were all the media resources are and what special effects are being used [when and where] in the video project.

The hardest way to consolidate all the source media, would be to dig through the project file, under MediaItems, track down each individual source media file and then copy that to a destination folder of your choosing. This doesn't mean that you make any corrections in the project file, this just means that you're putting all of the media that was used in the composition of your video into one location. This makes it easier to transport your project from point A to point B so you can work on projects from different computers.

Fortunate for the individual from the support forums, I'm not a big fan of doing stuff the hard way. And the request that he made, in regards to consolidating the source media files, seemed like such a logical request, I began to examine the project file in the format and how hard it would be to simply create a script file, using AutoHotKey, to extrapolate the file paths from the project file and then just simply copy all the source media files from their respective locations into a destination folder.

So what does the script file do?

It allows the user to open the existing project file of their choosing.
It extrapolates all the file paths from the project file
It copies all the source media files from the project file to a destination of the user's choosing.

What does the script file NOT do?

It does not, in any way, modify the existing Windows Movie Maker project file.

Note: There was a deliberate decision not to make adjustments to the original project file. I chose not to make any changes to the original project file simply to avoid situations where people were placed blame on their project outworking after files were moved.

Screenshots:

Beginning

<img title="WLMP_consolidator" style="background-image: none; It's a basic editor with very simplified interface, and it's part of the Windows Live Essentials Suite of applications.

It's a basic video editing package, but all the video formats it's supposed to support, the application doesn't support those standard video formats until you load the proper codecs. It's a basic editor with very simplified interface, and it's part of the Windows Live Essentials Suite of applications.

It's important to know exactly how Windows Movie Maker creates a DVD. So to clarify, Windows Movie Maker DOESN'T CREATE A DVD; it exports a WMV file to a TEMP location where Windows DVD Maker with the WMV in its queue for processing. Windows DVD Maker takes the WMV file and CONVERTS it again to a VOB format that DVD's use natively; it's just useful to know how the application accomplishes this process.

In the Microsoft Windows Essentials support forums, issues about having problems burning to DVD keep coming up. This is why you need an alternative to creating a DVD, outside of using Windows DVD Maker.

In the past, I had made the suggestion to use WinXDVD. WinXDVD is still a very good DVD authoring package, but if you're looking for something just straight forward use and offers a greater range on supporting more file formats; I'd have to now suggest Freemake Video Converter.

I was trying to use WinXDVD the other day to burn some videos, outside of Windows Movie Maker, and the video format was MOV [like from an iPhone] and when I tried to make the DVD, WinXDVD would not import those for a DVD.

So in addition to being able to convert a wide range of video formats, Freemake Video Converter can burn your videos very effortlessly to a DVD.

Freemake Video Converter is extremely easy to use, but there's some 'opt-out' software bundled with the installer that makes user nervous. And the most commonly recommended video converter is Freemake Video Converter.
Freemake Video Converter is a great software package, but people can be really apprehensive about dealing with ‘video converting’ software. Even more so, Freemake bundles their software with ‘opt-out’ software.
This post covers the download, installation and conversion of a video file to WMV for use with Windows Movie Maker.

Downloading and Installing Freemake Video Converter

So, let’s go get the application.

Navigate to the Freemake Video Converter website. While Windows Movie Maker says that it supports popular video formats, but the truth is the application doesn't natively support those video formats until the proper codecs installed. Without having the proper video codecs installed, you may have issues with importing, editing and exporting video [MOV, MP4, AVI, etc…].
As a suggestion for downloading codecs, http://www.free-codecs.com/ has an array of codec packs to choose from. I have used the K-Lite codec pack [standard] for years, and I've had very good success; it even gave me the ability to edit FLV files in Windows Movie Maker. I have never had a problem.
I put this together because there are apparently a lot of people scared to install software if they don't know what it is. So, below is a step-by-step installation with screenshots so people can see what's going to happen before they do any thing.

Installation Steps—

Run the installation file; its about 17Mb. This whole installation process should only take about 1-2 minutes.
With this codec pack loaded in Windows, you should be able to go in to Windows Movie Maker, or any other video editor, and be able to open, edit and encode video properly.
Note:
Codecs are only part of the video editing puzzle, system resources, video card,
DirectX and system patches. Ensure you are checking these items too and updating
regularly.

There are several reasons for not being able to import video into a video editor, but one of the most common issues is not having the proper codec installed.

If you're new to video editing, the concept of a codec may be completely foreign to you, but this doesn't devalue the requirement for the codec, and the bigger question is, how do you find the proper codec for the video file that you're trying to work with.

Luckily, there is a free application called MediaInfo that will allow you to open and inspect the media file you're trying to work with. The application will give you detailed information about the media file and what codecs are being used to encode the file. In addition to giving you this detailed information, it also gives you options for downloading the proper player and the proper codecs for video editing.

For instance, Windows Movie Maker support forums recommend to its visitors that they use MediaInfo to inspect foreign media files that they're having problems with. There's some information listed below on the downloading, installation and use of MediaInfo that may benefit you before you even install the application; if you're curious.

The Download and Installation—

MediaInfo can be downloaded from here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainfo/

MediaInfo Installation—

After you have the application downloaded, you'll have to install it. During the initial installation process, the installer will ask you to install third-party software; make sure you decline this option.

Choose where you want to have the application installed

Copying files to your system should not take that long; maybe a minute.

The installation will complete. Unless you're dealing with video editing on a regular basis and using multiple different video formats, you're probably going to be using this application just once.

Checking for new versions of the software is always a good idea and the default option to integrate with Windows Explorer is a good idea because it makes it convenient to right-click and choose the option for MediaInfo.

Once the application is installed, you have two options for inspecting her video for media information.

You can locate the file and then right-click on it, and choose the option for MediaInfo.

You can open MediaInfo and then choose to open the media file, by using the file menu.

Once the media file has been opened, MediaInfo will give you detailed information about the media; showing the codec information for the audio and video streams.

If you're having problems with video playback on your media file, MediaInfo provides buttons to download an appropriate media player, and if you're needing proper video codec, there's a button for that too.

If you're working with a third-party or requesting support from a forum, the information from MediaInfo can be copied and pasted in a text format.

You can do this by changing the view to text, selecting all, and then choosing the option to copy. From there, the textual information to be pasted into any area that accepts text input.

While MediaInfo can provide some very useful information about the details of the media file that are trying to work with, it doesn't change the fact that most likely you'll need the proper codec to work with your media file. I can appreciate that the application tries to point users in the proper direction to collect those codecs, but my recommendation is to download a codec pack.

As a suggestion, you can download the most common CODECS yourself— Here's one I use K-Lite standard codec pack; FREE & REPUTABLE, and updated regularly.

Link:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm

I hope this helps...
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15239354443486568192noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123260083943282839.post-86552454632952401012014-02-13T17:12:00.001-05:002014-02-13T17:21:41.698-05:00The Top 10 Frustrating Things About Windows Movie Maker 2012

I think everyone has experienced their fair share of difficulties with Windows Movie Maker 2012. It’s fair to say that the application is basic in nature and that Microsoft didn’t intend that Windows Movie Maker would be a high-end video editing package.

My personal experience with Microsoft support was that Windows Movie Maker was intended to encourage me to purchase a separate video editing package if I was going to be doing video editing on a regular basis; and that’s what I did. But I still use Windows Movie Maker from time to time for very simple video editing projects.

I continue to try to assist other Windows Movie Maker 2012 users, through the support forums, and if you spent any time in the support forums, you’ll see a recurring trend of stupid problems with Windows Movie Maker.

Lack Of Standard Lack of standard Supported File Formats

One of the most ironic things about Windows Movie Maker 2012 [and its predecessor] is that it’s supposed to have support for specific audio and video file format the that the application is supposed to build support natively. Unfortunately, the application doesn’t support does audio and video file formats unless the proper codecs are installed.

Windows Movie Maker supports the video formats as long as the video codecs are install, but Windows Movie Maker doesn’t come with those required video codecs; they leave that up to the users to collect on their own— knowing that Windows Movie Maker will not function properly without them.

The support form technicians commonly recommend that users go and try to use. ‘Microsoft fix it’ application; I have never seen [or heard of] one person in the support forum use this application and it resolve the problem—it’s utterly useless.

The solution is to load the proper codecs

As a suggestion, you can download the most common CODECS yourself— and installing them is very easy…

Here’s some standard codec packs; FREE. Possibility that this could be your problem genuinely;. If you’re using an older system or older video hardware.. But if you were using Windows Movie Maker the day before just fine, just like the last six months, and then all of a sudden the application doesn’t want to work and reports this error— you obviously know it’s wrong.

This particular error has been blamed on equipment just about every time by the technicians in the support forums, but resolutions for this have been presented in all shapes and forms; including creating a new user profile [saying that the current user profile was damaged].

Video Preview Performance

Another frustrating point for Windows Movie Maker 2012 users is the issue of video preview. Users continue to report issues with video preview not working and that the application becomes unstable or nonresponsive.

When the application becomes unresponsive, this is mainly because Windows Movie Maker 2012 has either crashed on trying to understand the video file that you’re trying to work with, or it’s in the process, in the background trying to render preview video. Unfortunately, the application doesn’t run through the video at an efficient pace.

On the base grounds of simply opening. Video file, an application that’s free, like VLC player, has much better success dealing with multiple video formats.

The best way to avoid overworking Windows Movie Maker is to work with native video formats that are familiar to Microsoft, such as WMV. Unfortunately, the WMV file format is not very efficient, it takes up more hard drive space, and it’s not. Standard video format is currently used on video recorders; like MP4.

As a suggestion for video converters,I have used all three of these video converters and think are are very good; and easy to use. They all have the video conversion options you’d be searching for and handle plenty of common formats— and they’re all free. Be sure to watch for the installation options [opt out] on just what you want.

Link:
http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/free-video-converter/
http://videoconverter.hamstersoft.com/
http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/

No Storyboard View

One of the stupidest moves that Microsoft has made with Windows Movie Maker 2012, even further back to 2011, was that they were moved the traditional storyboard that just about everyone uses for video editing.

What Windows Movie Maker has now is technically storyboard, but it’s very limited and based on information. Received, and seen, this is what Microsoft wanted you to see.

As. Mentioned before, as Microsoft explained it to me, Windows Movie Maker is an application that is there to encourage me to purchase better software with greater ability. Windows Movie Maker’s only starter package with basic functions.

Fortunately, for users who really enjoyed the previous layout and functionality of Windows Movie Maker, before it was ‘live’ anything, you can still download Windows Movie Maker 2.6.

Link:
http://members.shaw.ca/wmm6/wmm6.html

No Auto Save; Auto-recovery

Another major complaints about Windows Movie Maker 2012 and its predecessor was that the application doesn’t have an auto recovery. The application doesn’t incrementally say the progress of your video editing. This essentially means that after working for hours on composing. New video, if Windows Movie Maker 2012 decides to crash, you are going to lose every bit of your work; there is no recourse or recovery.

It’s almost unthinkable that an application like this, with the potential to have hours and hours of adjustments, changes, customizations and video clips, that it would not have some sort of auto save function.

I’ve seen the request, in be support forms on. Repeated basis, but Microsoft has failed, sadly, to address this issue with the application.

The only workaround it’s been presented so far is that users should save their work progressively, as they’re working on it. This also addresses the problem with the application where users were not able to save their projects at all. At least by saving your project incrementally, you don’t lose all of your work; only from the point where you last saved.

Lack Of Audio Anchors That Work

I think everyone was editing video for hours trying to get everything right, but then you see this one little spot that needs to be adjusted; you make the adjustment and then everything else on the storyboard is messed up— every single audio clip is messed up. It’s not in the place that you intended.

If you never used Windows Movie Maker, you understand what I’m talking about. The application does not have the formal ability to lock audio to specific parts of the storyboard/or video clips.

Users should have the ability to edit video without having the audio track affected, but because of the way Windows Movie Maker handles its storyboard, it is an audio track associated with a video clip, if you mess with the video clip, all the other audio clips on storyboard will be offset and placed in the wrong positions; over the entire storyboard.

This issue has been repeatedly reported to the Microsoft support forum and Microsoft continues to ignore the issue completely.

If you'd like, you can leave feedback for the Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 team for suggestions/improvements:

Link:
https://feedback.live.com/default.aspx?productkey=moviemaker

Narration As A Second Audio Track

In a previous version of Windows Movie Maker [LIVE], the application did not have the ability to do narration; Microsoft brought back the ability to do narration with version 2012.

But when Microsoft reintroduced the feature of being able to do narration, they did so as a second track of audio. So the application technically has two tracks of audio, but the secondary track is reserved for narration. The application is complicated by the fact that it’s labeled as narration; when in fact it’s just a secondary audio track— it’s stupid how it’s presented.

You can’t add two tracks of audio, but you can add music and narration; essentially, to tracks of audio— stupid. Its one of the basic functions of video editing; you can do everything in the application— you have to be able to cut out sections of video or audio and save those off to be used in other places.

A frustrating part of Windows Movie Maker is that you can’t do this very easily.

The application is going to make you load the same video each time, delete everything else, and then choose the option to export; it’s beyond time-consuming.

Unfortunately, there is no workaround. If you want to build export video clips that you created inside the application, this is what you’ll have to do. If you’re thinking that you could probably open to versions of Windows Movie Maker, you can’t; there’s only one instance allowed at a time. Having the ability to have two sessions open at once might be convenient, but it’s not allowed.

No Built-in DVD Burning

I would absolutely love to have someone explain to me the logic process of Microsoft where an application called Windows Movie Maker does not have the ability to export to a DVD.

This question is even more baffling to the customers who migrated to Windows 8, because Windows 8 doesn’t even have the ability to create a video DVD.

Microsoft wants users to go find their own DVD authoring software, and deal with them for tech support issues. Even with Windows Movie Maker 2011, the application did not have the ability to burn your movie to DVD. The application exported a WMV file to Windows DVD maker, for the file is converted into a VOB format, and then written to a DVD.

A lot of users that had used Windows Movie Maker in the past, had not realized that’s how the application works; best they also didn’t understand that when they were having problems with DVD playback, it was the cause that the Windows DVD maker was having problems with converting the WMV file.

Download WinX DVD - DVD Authoring software…
This is an alternative DVD authoring software package for converting your videos directly to VOB, to be placed on a DVD disc. It offers functions for Standard quality and HD quality, it has functions to control the DVD menu and chapter controls… and it's without charge of any kind.

Link:
http://bit.ly/NoaTKp

Video Snapshot

This last issue is just complete laziness. It’s one of the most asinine things that I’ve seen in Windows Movie Maker.

In Windows Movie Maker 2012, you have the ability to do a snapshot of the preview window that you’re looking, and based on the size of the snapshot window, this determines the resolution of the output image file.

So, in order to get the highest resolution snapshot picture of the movie are currently working, you have to slide the preview window separator all the way to the right, maximize the application window and then choose the option to do a snapshot.

This could’ve been handled so much more intelligently; it would’ve been easy enough to give users the options for low, medium or high resolution, or give them the option to choose a maximum resolution of their own.

If you have more, I would love to hear them!

Xposted to LEHSYS.com
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15239354443486568192noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123260083943282839.post-53028149212309507922014-01-22T14:16:00.001-05:002014-01-22T14:16:51.709-05:00Windows Live Writer 2012 - Working With Images

I was in the Windows Live Writer support forum the other day and I was trying to assist someone who was having problems with posting clear images to Blogger. Apparently the original images that she was trying to attach was fairly large and when she tried to attach them to her blog post, the images looked okay but once the article was published, she indicated that the images that she was working with or had inserted, were now blurry.

This topic got me thinking about how Windows Live Writer works with images that are inserted into blog posts.

During the composition phase of writing an article in Windows Live Writer, the application creates a new temporary location to store the images that you're going to be working with. It's typically the temporary location assigned by the operating system and the temporary location it's created is always some sort of cryptic designation; something you can't predict.

It's noteworthy to mention that there is several ways to get images [attached] into Windows Live Writer. It's also important to mention that anytime that you resize an image there's going to be a level of degradation. You obviously can't fit 2488w image into 800w without affecting the resolution of the image on some level.

You can link to them
you can drag-and-drop them
and you can copy and paste them

Linking
Linking to the original image, there should be no degradation. So in this circumstance, you can upload the original images to your Google storage and then link to them in your blog post.

Windows Live Writer will create a thumbnail image, but if the visitor clicks on the link, they will get the original image.

Drag-and-drop Images
Using drag-and-drop to attach images to your blog post is still going to result in some degradation of the attached image [PNG]. Windows Live Writer creates automatically several versions of the image you're attaching; one of those is a thumbnail image. Additionally, PNG files are typically much larger than JPEG's.
Linking and drag-and-drop options resize these images; you're essentially
resizing the thumbnail image that Windows Live Writer is using.
It's important to mention that if you are attaching larger image files to your blog post, other blog services like WordPress, have reported problems with posting articles that have large attached files. The large attached image files causes the server to use an excess of memory during the posting process and an error 500 could be returned. It's important to use optimized images whenever you can.

Copy/cut and paste Images
If you copy and paste an image from another application into Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Writer automatically converts that captured screenshots [clipboard image] into a PNG file; essentially converting the image on the fly. Converting the image like this, will again cause degradation.

For the example shown above, I only pasted one image; Windows Live Writer created six copies of the same file. This is done on-the-fly to match the options in Windows Live Writer for original, small, medium, and large options for image size presets.
If you paste JPEG images, Windows Live Writer automatically creates multiple versions of those files as well.
I would also like to mention that Google does have limitations on image storage, unless you're paying for additional storage from Google. Photos up to 2048 x 2048 pixels and videos up to 15 minutes won't count towards your free storage.
Link:
http://lehsys.blogspot.com/2012/11/google-picasa-web-offers-free-image-and.html
There's also a plug-in that you might find extremely useful. It gives you the ability to paste images directly into Windows Live Writer as JPEG's, but it also gives the composer the ability to edit the images with external image editing software prior to publishing.
Link:
http://plugins.live.com/writer/detail/sharper-photo

I hope this helps...
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15239354443486568192noreply@blogger.com0
