Open Live Writer with WordPress HTTPS (403 Error)

The developer team over at Open Live Writer have been busy with trying to address several problems with blog authors trying to publish their posts. Recently the Open Live Writer development team have been busy trying to address problems with not being able to publish posts to WordPress blogs that utilize the HTTPS (SSL) connections.

If you're one of those people, you'll be relieved to know that an unreleased version of Open Live Writer 0.6.2.287 has address this problem and reflects that the problem is solved in the next official release.

The post details out the process of reporting the problem and the additional steps that were taken to resolve the issue.

Scott Lovegrove provided a test release of Open Live Writer to the member that was having a problem, and after installing and testing, the user confirmed they could post again.

Download Full Windows Essentials 2012 [offline] installer

The other day, it dawns on me that Microsoft has killed all their download links for Microsoft Windows Essentials 2012.

This was a slight problem because I was going to get my son started with doing some video editing with Windows Movie Maker 2012, but the download links were gone. Luckily, I keep a lot of the installers I download; that included the last full installer of Microsoft Windows Essentials 2012.

Open Live Writer – Server Error 501 using Blogger Service

Since the death of Windows Live Writer, the Open Live Writer dev team has given it a new life and making small improvements over the past year. While there has been some improvements, the application is still has a lot of the old dependencies.

Take for an example, in a recent forum post an user posted an error with using the Blogger service; saying he was getting error 501.

Open Live Writer 0.6.1.0 is available at the Windows Store

I've been blogging for a long time and my favorite application to use for generating my articles is/was Windows Live Writer, but Microsoft has since sunset that product. It's been replaced by Open Live Writer. Over the past year, since the Open Live Writer team took over the development of that application, the development team on GITHUB has been busy in the background making small improvements.

The latest version of Open Live Writer can be found on the Windows Store. Just do a search for Open Live Writer. The application will be installed and should be available for automatic update as they're issued.

Open Live Writer v6 fixes some problems with Blogger

You really have to appreciate the developers that have taken over for Windows Live Writer since it's gone open source; Open Live Writer. Microsoft completely abandoned Windows Live Writer couple of years ago and there hasn't been any active development on the application for a while.

Just recently, Windows Live Writer stopped working with Blogger altogether. This left a lot of [Blogger] blog authors completely frantic; looking for solutions. The developers fixed that pretty quick and luckily, with the latest release of Open Live Writer, version 6, a few more issues with the Blogger interface has been remedied.

Open Live Writer – User Manual [CHM]

This is an 'unofficial' user manual for Open Live Writer. In the days of Windows Live Writer, there was never an official user manual for the application from Microsoft, just a bunch of websites with some how to's.

I decided to write this manual for all the people who might like to have an user manual for Open Live Writer going forward. It covers every function Open Live Writer has from downloading it from the website to the information in the About option.

If you aren't sure, Open Live Writer is an offline blog editor that was once called Windows Live Writer; from Microsoft. Microsoft abandoned the application because it didn't fit their business model for their 'Windows Live' blog platform. Thankfully a group of developers, that happened to love Windows Live Writer, worked with Microsoft to take over the project and make it open source.

Just so you know, this is a 'living user manual' for Open Live Writer; meaning it'll be updated as new features and functions are included with the application.

Open Live Writer Works With Blogger [Again]

Hey! Welcome back! This meaning the ability to post posts with Blogger. The Open Live Writer team has updated their software [0.5.1.4]. So, for people still using Blogger, they can be considered somewhat happy again.

If you’re a blogger, and you use Google/Blogger, you should head over to OpenLiveWriter.org and download the latest version.

It's been obvious for a long time that Microsoft has been completely neglecting one of the most popular applications they've ever seen for bloggers; Windows Live Writer. Lot of information and rumor has been spread for a long time about Windows Live Writer going open source.

The moment that devout Windows Live Writer users have been waiting for has come true. Windows Live Writer has been released as open source. Some more good news is that there's plenty of volunteer programmers that have stepped forward to donate portions of code to make Windows Live Writer better.

Going forward, with the open source version, it's now going to be called Open Live Writer. as with most software that goes open source, some changes in code will happen. And with this release of Open Live Writer, some features of the application have been removed because of the integration with Microsoft.

Windows Live Writer likes Nuance's Speech Recognition Again

For the longest time, I was a devout user of Windows Live Writer. I used Windows Live Writer to produce pretty much all of my articles on my website, but as Microsoft decided to lean away from supporting Windows Live Writer, I started looking for other alternatives. As my website [LEHSYS]is based off of WordPress, I started exploring options to produce my articles with that platform, but the experience for producing articles wasn't that robust; it was limited in many ways.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of off-line blogging applications that are other decent quality. No one has actually stepped forward to produce something that is really a well-rounded option for blogging off-line, or making it very easy for authors to produce content.

Windows 10: Microsoft leaves Windows Movie Maker to die

With the release of Windows 10, some people may have noticed that Windows Movie Maker may not be there. If you install Windows 10 from a clean installation, it's not going to be there, but if you have Windows Movie Maker installed before you upgrade from a previous version of Windows to Windows 10, it should be there.

According to Microsoft's website, Windows Movie Maker is no longer supported by Windows 10. So the question becomes is this a good idea or is it a bad idea? The answer is simple if your Microsoft and a bit disappointing if you're the person who's been using Windows Movie Maker for years; or expecting to have some sort of video editing software built into the operating system.

Looking forward to Windows Live Writer being open sourced

The idea of Windows live writer going open sourced is very exciting for me; I think it's a great idea. Microsoft hasn't shown any love for Windows live writer in a really long time. I think the last update to Windows live writer was sometime in 2009. I don't necessarily include a GUI update, without any bug fixes, a serious update to the application.

Reports are coming in that Windows live writer is going to be going open source, and that's great, because I haven't used Windows live writer to compose any blog posts in a while.

Like most of you, I run into issues with theme compatibility, problems with posting, being able to access accounts, lack of appropriate plug-ins, and having to convert my images to JPEG format when composing my blog posts. Those are just some of the things that I think Microsoft should have fixed early on, but didn't.

Windows Movie Maker 2011/2012 - Webcam issues?

This offering from Microsoft hasn't been updated in some time. It still has all the same problems and issues it had in 2011. The only thing Microsoft added was the ability to export to MP4 and changed up the ribbon interface; which I don't think is a massive improvement, but oh, well.

One problem that has remained the same is the problem with Windows Movie Maker not working with certain webcams [web camera (s)]; even Microsoft's own LifeCam. This can be just about any webcam, but the point is that Windows Movie Maker sometimes just doesn't work.

Are you one of the dedicated few that are still using Windows Live Writer? Have you noticed that Microsoft has removed the Windows Live Writer plug-ins page?

Back in August 2014, there was a post on Twitter that indicated that there were some advanced discussions about living Windows Live Writer over to open source. But I wonder if that discussion is too late. Microsoft has essentially killed Windows Live Writer by not offering any updates on the software in years.

The Windows Live Writer support forum is all but a ghost town. There are very few new posts coming into the support forum.

I was recently given the opportunity to review WonderFox DVD Ripper, for copying DVDs. WLMP Consolidator for Windows Movie Maker

If you have ever worked with Windows Movie Maker 2011 or 2012, you may have run into a situation where you're working on a project where it's partially done, but you need to build a Project to another location, on another PC and be able to work on that video project there as well.

Windows Movie Maker provides some baseline video editing abilities, but one of the things that it does not do is consolidate all of the media that are being used in the composition/rendering of the video. About two months ago, I was in the Windows Movie Maker support forums and there was an individual who is requesting for Windows Movie Maker to be able to grab all the media that was being used for his video composition and consolidate all media types into one folder.

Unfortunately, Windows Movie Maker 2012 doesn't do that. When you're working with a video project in Windows Movie Maker, Windows Movie Maker simply looks to the location where the source video is and works from there.

This is just quick post on being able to download all the various versions of Windows Movie Maker [Microsoft Windows Essentials 2011/2012 and Windows Movie Maker v6].

While Microsoft may like the concept of using their web installers, the truth is they're not efficient and the bigger truth is downloading a 120Mb file isn't really that big of a deal.

Windows Movie Maker 2012: Audio BUT No Video Problem?

It's a basic video editing package, but all the video formats it's supposed to support, the application doesn't support those standard video formats until you load the proper codecs. This isn't an end all be all solution, but it's important to mention when dealing with Windows Movie Maker; it doesn't support all the [listed] video formats right out of the gate.

A lot of users that want to use Windows Movie Maker 2011/2012 don't know this. If you are seeing this issue, your problem could be attributed to several things [video drivers, DirectX, codecs or system patches], but it's important to start with simple solutions versus what Microsoft normally does, which is recommend users completely reinstall Windows Movie Maker.

Windows Movie Maker 2012 - How Speed Up Or Slow Down Video

Windows Live Movie Maker is a free offering from Microsoft that offers novice and average users the ability to edit video and from there, be able to share/publish it to Facebook, YouTube, eMail, DVD and even custom resolutions. It's a basic editor with very simplified interface, and it's part of the Windows Live Essentials Suite of applications.

Windows Movie Maker 2012 has had the ability to speed up or slow down video since 2011, but it has not worked correctly until 2012. In previous versions, Windows Movie Maker could adjust the speed of the video, but in doing so the application would dump/drop the audio track completely; which, in some cases, makes the video that much more interesting.

It's important to know exactly how Windows Movie Maker creates a DVD. So to clarify, Windows Movie Maker DOESN'T CREATE A DVD; it exports a WMV file to a TEMP location where Windows DVD Maker with the WMV in its queue for processing. Windows DVD Maker takes the WMV file and CONVERTS it again to a VOB format that DVD's use natively; it's just useful to know how the application accomplishes this process.
