Open Live Writer with WordPress HTTPS (403 Error)

The developer team over at Open Live Writer have been busy with trying to address several problems with blog authors trying to publish their posts. Recently the Open Live Writer development team have been busy trying to address problems with not being able to publish posts to WordPress blogs that utilize the HTTPS (SSL) connections.

If you're one of those people, you'll be relieved to know that an unreleased version of Open Live Writer 0.6.2.287 has address this problem and reflects that the problem is solved in the next official release.

The post details out the process of reporting the problem and the additional steps that were taken to resolve the issue.

Scott Lovegrove provided a test release of Open Live Writer to the member that was having a problem, and after installing and testing, the user confirmed they could post again.

Open Live Writer – Server Error 501 using Blogger Service

Since the death of Windows Live Writer, the Open Live Writer dev team has given it a new life and  making small improvements over the past year. While there has been some improvements, the application is still has a lot of the old dependencies.

Take for an example, in a recent forum post an user posted an error with using the Blogger service; saying he was getting error 501.

Windows Movie Maker 2011/2012 - Webcam issues?

This offering from Microsoft hasn't been updated in some time. It still has all the same problems and issues it had in 2011. The only thing Microsoft added was the ability to export to MP4 and changed up the ribbon interface; which I don't think is a massive improvement, but oh, well.

One problem that has remained the same is the problem with Windows Movie Maker not working with certain webcams [web camera (s)]; even Microsoft's own LifeCam. This can be just about any webcam, but the point is that Windows Movie Maker sometimes just doesn't work.

A new version of Windows Live Writer 2012 is out and nothing is new- so disappointing

What'd you [Microsoft] guys do with Windows Live Writer?

Microsoft released a new version of Windows Live Writer this morning and I'm utterly disgusted with what Microsoft considers a new version. Nothing is new with the latest version. Hell, even the name is the same 'Windows Live Writer'.

Microsoft said Windows 'Live' is dead; it's supposed to be just Windows Essentials Writer. What the heck are they doing over there? The last update to Windows Live Writer was the so-called improvement by removing the sidebar and changing the toolbars to ribbon GUI's.

And they had yet to add a 'FIND and REPLACE' to the application.

The latest version was just released and there's nothing new about the application. Microsoft is nice enough not to tell anyone 'what's new' about the new application, so this becomes a scavenger hunt to see if people can find out what's new with Windows Live Writer.

Been having problems with making a DVD with Windows Live Movie Maker 2011?

The program itself isn't bad; it's very basic- after a few months of using it, I found some problems with it and had to move on to something more capable. But for the basic quick stuff it's okay…

As I visit the forums from time to time, it seem to be a reoccuring issue where people/users can't create a DVD with Windows Live Movie Maker. Well, to be honest, Windows Live Movie Maker doesn't make the DVD's… the only thing Windows Live Movie Maker can do [technically] is export a WMV.

Blogger has seemingly changed it's API without telling anyone; or it's just broke.

I was reportng on one problem when I found two others. The Google blogger support forums are teaming with reports of people having problems with not being able to post to BLOGGER using outside applications like Zoundry Raven or Windows Live Writer.

There's a small range of problems right now; they're not being able to publish, not being able to pull old posts to edit them and the problem with the SLUG not being created properly. The problems are for sure a result of something that Google changed recently with the Blogger handling of remote posting applications; or basically, mucking with the base API that allows outside applications to post articles to BLOGGER.

The forums have been busy with reports for a couple of days and yet I've seen no responses from Google Blogger support over the issue; which isn't encouraging. You would really expect to see more participation from Google on issues of this nature.

Notice: Blogger is creating the wrong SLUG for Blogs

This started like last week [or more]. People using Windows Live Writer and blogger may have noticed this; mainly because Windows Live Writer is the de facto standard for offline blogging.

Basically, the problem is that when people compose blogs and then submit them to their respective blogs to be posted, the SLUG or URL they uses is typically composed of the words use in the title of the blog post. and as of recently, this hasn't been happening with blogger.

Blogger is taking the first sentence of the blog, not the title, and creating the default SLUG or URL for the post. it's really nothing more than irritation, but it should get some notice because it doesn't create a very efficient SEO tagged blog post.

Zemanta still problems with it's plug-in with Windows Live Writer 2011

I reported a problem way back with Zemanta and the plug-in for Windows Live Writer; it was the one where Zemanta's plug-in would crash Windows Live Writer at right about 460+ - 500 words. I got their attention and then I was able to get one of their developers to remote in to my machine and they were able to see the problem in action.

Later Zemanta released another version of the plug with a fix; but it was only a slight fix… the bug was still there; only in a different spot.

Now, the plug-in has recently gotten worse; it crashes if you even so much as hover over the related articles listing…

I contacted them again and I sent them a screenshot, but sometimes videos work a lot better.

Windows Live Writer: my 500 Internal Server Error -just weird

As everyone knows [hopefully], Windows Live Writer is a fantastic offline blogging tool with a WYSIWYG editor. It interfaces with just about any blog service [Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, WordPress, etc.]

But then again, there's the crap like this…

I could and have published other posts, and even older posts just for testing... my problem was showing up when I was making an attempt to publish this one SPECIFIC post.

The crashes, the codecs, Windows Live Movie Maker not being able to start at all… and the Microsoft techs working the forums seem helpless at best. Sometimes I wonder if they actually read the peoples submissions at all before they throw a canned respons at them about collecting and sending in a bunch system specifications [to never have returned].
